You might be looking at these questions and recognize yourself
quickly. Or you may wonder why the question is being asked at all, denying
your human weakness!
In actuality, any
of the areas listed above are human challenges that all of us face at one
time or another in our lifetime. They are considered problems of "self"
which include self-belittlement, self-exaltation, self-pity, envy, jealousy,
pride, covetousness and greed.
You saw how this focus on self can be
demonstrated in our carnal or fleshly nature when you looked at the chart
on "choices" in the lesson entitled, "War Has Been Declared".
Adultery, hatred, jealousy, murder, anger, selfish ambition, drunkenness and the
like all lead to death if they are not dealt with correctly in the Christian
life. Self-focus
is the source or root of ALL other sins; consequently, it is the one the
baby Christian must come to recognize first of all as he/she hopes for victory
in the maturing process.
It is easy to become discouraged as we recognize these
weaknesses. It's better to not focus on the weakness, but to ask, "How
does God view my challenge?" And "What is His plan for
me?"
By clicking on the next link you will see some possibilities
for answering the first question.
