Practice is the key word here. Change does not take place instantly.
You will need to choose daily to take every thought captive. Then
earnestly find a way to make your thoughts obedient to Jesus.
"The weapons we fight with are not the
weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to
demolish strongholds.
and we take captive every thought to make it
obedient to Christ." 2
Corinthians 10:4-5
If the weapons God has given us can 'demolish
strongholds', let's look at two of the most important weapons found in
James 4:7...submit and resist.
"Submit yourselves, then, to God.
Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." James 4:7
The following ideas will help you to use those two
weapons.
HERES THE PLAN:
What to do when you experience anxiety, fear or worry:
Pray aloud, using James 4:7, and other appropriate prayers
listed earlier in this lesson series.
- Confess
your anxiety, fear or worry as a lack of trust in
your Heavenly Father, ask for His forgiveness and
- Claim
His cleansing through the blood of Jesus Christ and the
water of His Word. In other words, you claim the Fathers promises as personal for
yourself.
- Memorize
verses such as Philippians 4:6-7, Psalms 23 and 91. Write them on 3 x 5 cards and keep them with you or posted around the
house.
Sing songs of praise and worship, Scripture put to music, or
play tapes or CDs that do the same.
- Trust
actively in Gods faithfulness by living in His Word and
following the Holy Spirits promptings. (John 15)
- Stay busy
in Gods service, helping others. Idleness is the
companion of fear.
- Stay focused
on Jesus
ask yourself: What would Jesus do?
He
is the Author and Finisher of your faith. (Hebrews 12:2)
Lets pray:
Father, I thank you that you have not given me
a spirit of fear. I claim the promise that you have given me power,
love, and a sound mind, and I thank you for enabling me to practice
thinking your thoughts. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
